Ermida Nossa Sra. da Conceição
On the walls, white / among colours, black / among outlines, soft shadings / among angles or corners, symmetries / inverted heights on the skirting boards/ from close to the ground through to the top of the smooth wall, transfers.
My project for the Ermida is structured, in line with my recent practice, around painting. Developing the idea of fragmentation, I try to create relationships between shapes, structures, adapting to the surfaces or spaces where they are set, decidedly invading the present interior of this chapel.
This is about deconstructing the space as we recognize it. I intend to move the historic weight of this space to a different plane, a new autonomous space, which, by its plastic vibration will help us forget the space where these new paintings are set, since a studied interaction will present a new place to us. This is not about denying the existing space; rather about making us conscious that the space we share is also the one that, at a given moment in time, we open our eyes to and that it is possible to maintain a dialogue with history by refusing its discourse.
