Desordem comum

Galeria Miguel Nabinho - Lisboa

29/09/2010 - 27/11/2010

[PT]

On recent art works by Pedro Calapez, abstract painting dialogs with the work’s contour shape, as the panel’s twisted designs interact with the thick colours on the surface. The system, sometimes followed by the artist, of grouping painted aluminium panels, causes a disaggregation revealed by the fragmentation of the work, but the tension that arises by it’s display creates a movement with an unexpected direction, an unbalanced balance.

Sometimes the painted surface reminds us of horizons, spaces and depths, challenging the ideas on landscape or the problematic of representation. The panel shapes express different types of references, heraldic for example, and work titles refer to forms, processes or objects associated to visual memories.
